Sporting the fluffiest and warmest of wool, the Alpaca is one farm animal that we are not ashamed to admit we’d love to snuggle. The adorable qualities and quirks of these aloof and sweet creatures are almost overwhelming. Originating in South America, this mammal is a miniature species of a camel whose genes clearly missed the notice about growing humps! Nonetheless, they have a few of their own distinct features that we simply cannot get enough of.

In the past few decades, Alpacas were imported into North America and successfully bred in private farms and zoos. Their precious appearance and sensitive and intuitive personalities provided an opportunity for them to break into the emotional support animal realm, where they visit hospitals and retirement homes. If you’ve ever seen one in person or watched a million videos (like we have), you might have noticed that Alpacas are excellent hummers. This peaceful lull can be the cause of curiosity, excitement, worry, or simply boredom. If you haven’t heard an alpaca hum – you are missing out!

For anyone looking to add an alpaca to their family, there are a few key things to note before diving in. Alpacas are herd animals – if you wish to give your Alpaca and full and happy life – you’ll be looking to adopt a minimum of two others to maintain herd contentment. Although they are relatively maintenance-free and easy to care for, we recommend you do your research!

However, you may be a lucky duck who already has a herd of alpacas roaming in your yard, in which case, you’ll need a few good alpaca names! Look no further, as we have covered all bases with male and female suggestions, funny ideas, cute names, and of course, names for your entire herd!
