Doggy daycare lets dog owners drop their dogs off at the center where they will be cared for, exercised, fed, and watered until their owners pick them up again. They can be essential for dog owners that go out to work, but they can also be used for one-off days or shorter periods. No matter how much an owner loves their dog and involves them in everything, there are times when it might not be possible to have them at home.

Below are 11 benefits of using a doggy daycare, including benefits to the dog and advantages for their owners, so you can decide whether using one of these services is a good idea for you and your beloved pup.

The 6 Benefits for Your Dog

There are several possible options when it comes to dog care. If you’re unable to keep your dog at home or you need some time, you can use a dog walking or pet-sitting service. You could ask a friend or family member to take the dog for the day, or you could leave them home alone. However, doggy daycare offers the following benefits for your dog.

1. Regular Exercise

Dogs can be incredibly active animals and if they don’t get the regular exercise they need, it can lead to anxiety and depression, weight problems, and it may even lead to your dog acting out by displaying antisocial and destructive behavior.

The amount of exercise a dog needs depends on its breed, physical activity level, and other factors, but most breeds require a minimum of one hour of exercise every day. At daycare, your dog will be able to charge around fields and other settings easily getting its share of activity.

2. Mental Stimulation

Mental stimulation is also important for dogs, and although it can take many forms, sitting at home alone won’t usually provide enough stimulation.

Depending on the daycare service, your dog might enjoy socializing with other animals, some basic training, and the use of interactive and dynamic toys to exercise and test their mind.

3. Socialization

Socialization is an important element in any dog’s development. It should start when your dog is young and be continued throughout their life. Socialization means meeting new dogs and people while also being faced with new situations.

At doggy daycare, your pup is likely to meet new canine pals every few days and will come into contact with different people.

4. Prevent Separation Anxiety

Separation anxiety can be a major problem for some dogs. It occurs when your dog is left alone for too long a period. For example, when you’re out at work and your dog is left at home alone. It causes anxiety and can lead to depression.

If your dog gets stressed about being left alone it can lead to destructive behavior, like chewing furniture, and other antisocial behavior like incessant barking and indoor toileting. Taking your dog to daycare means that they are not left alone and may not suffer the anxiety that comes with solitude.

5. Grooming May Be Available

Some daycare services offer additional features, other than caring for and exercising dogs over the day. One such service is dog grooming. You can ask the daycare staff to clean your dog, clip their nails, trim their hair, and generally smarten them up. Such services may cost extra, but they can save you a lot of time and it is especially useful if you’re not comfortable cutting nails and trimming hair yourself.

6. Some Doggy Daycare Centers Offer Training

Another service that daycare centers can offer is training. Let the center know what you have been working on and they will be able to work on the same training as you have been. Most centers will encourage some form of training, typically teaching their dogs some basic commands and good behavior because it makes their day easier and helps ensure peace and calm.

The 5 Benefits for Humans

Doggy daycare isn’t just beneficial to dogs. It can provide an invaluable service to dog owners, too. Whether you have to go to work all day or you need to get your dog out of the house for a few days while work is being done, there are benefits to using doggy daycare.

7. Your Dog Is Cared For

Asking a friend or family member to take your dog can be a simple solution, but do you know that they are equipped to provide care for your canine friend? Doggy daycare facilities will ensure that your dog is fed and watered, that they are exercised, and that they don’t come to any harm. They will take as good care of your dog as you would which means that you don’t have to sit at work worrying.

8. Take a Break

No matter how much you love your dog, it can do you both good to have a break from one another’s company. Daycare encourages independence in your dog and it also gives you the time to get on with activities that need doing around the house and are better done with no canine assistance.

If you’re decorating, tidying bedrooms, or you have contractors in, for example, it might be easier to let somebody else take care of the dog for a few hours.

9. A Tired Dog Is a Good Dog

Dogs enjoy plenty of exercise and mental stimulation while they’re at daycare and, as the saying goes, a tired dog is a good dog. When you collect your pup and take them home, they will likely want to rest and mull over the day’s activities, so your home remains stress-free and peaceful.

10. Prevent Destructive Behavior

When left alone, some dogs can exhibit destructive behavior that includes chewing furniture, scratching of carpet, or inappropriate toileting. This usually occurs because your dog is stressed that you aren’t at home, although if you have to leave them for several hours, peeing and pooping are natural activities. If your dog is at doggy daycare, there is no danger of you coming home to a wrecked house.

11. No More Barking While You’re Out

Another type of behavior that is common in dogs suffering from separation anxiety is excessive barking. Your dog may be eager to welcome you back or feel that it needs to protect the homestead while you’re out. It could just bark and cry because it is bored and looking for something to do.

Excessive barking can be a nuisance for your neighbors, and this is especially a problem if you live close to your neighbors.

Final Thoughts

No matter how much a dog owner loves their dog, there come times when they must be separated. Whether you go out to work or you are having work done on the house, finding someone to care for your dog is important.

Doggy daycare centers offer much more than just somewhere for your dog to wait. They provide exercise, ensure the health and safety of your dog, and they can be beneficial for socializing, exercising, and even training and grooming. At the very least, you can enjoy peace of mind knowing that your dog is being well cared for.
