The 10 Best Hamster Treats – Reviews 2020
1. Oxbow Simple Rewards Oven Baked Treats – Best Overall
Our first choice is the Oxbow Simple Rewards Oven Baked Treats. These all-natural hamster snacks come in four flavors such as apple and banana, bell pepper, carrots and dill, and cranberry. They also come in a resealable bag, so you will not have to worry about the treats going bad.
The Oxbow treats are not only great snacks for your pet, but they also relieve the need to chew and help with boredom. They are an oven-baked, crunchy formula that is made with garden-fresh flavors, not to mention, the added vitamins and minerals to promote an overall healthy hamster. What’s more, these chews are made with high fiber ingredients in the form of timothy hay, and they are a good source of protein.
You can pick this product up in a two-ounce bag. They are good for all small animals, so you can share them with other furballs, as well. They have no artificial ingredients and they promote healthy teeth. Overall, this is our favorite choice for a hamster treat.
2. Kaytee Timothy Biscuits Baked Treat – Best Value
If you need something affordable for your small pet, try the Kaytee 100037504 Timothy Biscuits Baked treats. Available in a four-ounce resealable bag, these hamster snacks are oven-baked with apple for a tasty flavor your pet will enjoy. Not only that, but they provide a chewing outlet to relieve boredom.
This snack is made with sun-cured Timothy Hay, plus high levels of healthy fiber. They also have good protein levels, and they contain additional vitamins and minerals. Not only that, but it will also help with tartar and plaque build-up. Keep in mind, however, that this formula has soy which can be hard to digest for some pets. Also, some animals have sensitivities to the ingredient.
Beyond that, the Kaytee treat is safe for all small animals. In general, it is the best hamster treat for the money.
3. Henry’s Peanut Stix – Premium Choice
Henry’s Peanut Stix is our next option. This is an all-natural peanut-flavored treat that is made with whole grains and other healthy ingredients. It is great for chewing, relieving boredom, and helping to promote healthy teeth and gums. What’s more, you won’t find any artificial ingredients such as colors, flavors, or preservatives in the formula.
The Henry’s is a more expensive snack than our other options, although each one is baked fresh to order. Not only that, but you can choose between a four or eight-ounce snack depending on your pet’s size. You will also note that there is no fruit, sweeteners, or sodium in the ingredients.
This hamster treat is made without soy products, as well. One other aspect you should be aware of, however, is you will need to freeze these treats. This can make giving your pet a spontaneous snack more difficult. Other than that, this is a healthy option for your hamster.
4. Ware Manufacturing Large Rice Pops
The Ware Manufacturing 3076 Large Rice Pops comes in a six-pack of bright green and red colored sticks that your pet can nibble and chew on to their heart’s content. They are crisp and crunchy, plus the colors are done with safe, human-grade dyes that will not make your little furball ill from chewing.
Something to note about this product is they can tend to crumble quickly with bigger pets. On the other hand, the ¾-inch diameter and 5-inch length snacks are long-lasting for the average-sized tyke. Just be careful with dwarf hamsters as this treat may be too big for them. Besides size, these snacks are a good source of protein and fiber.
The Ware snacks are great for curbing excess chewing, as well as, relieving boredom. They can be given to all kinds of small pets, plus they are good for maintaining their teeth and gums. Made of rice and corn, there are no harmful ingredients. The only other drawback to this treat is they can go stale quickly.
5. eCOTRITION Yogies
Up next we have the eCOTRITION E4730 Yogies. These bites are made with real yogurt in either a fruit or cheese flavor that your hamster will go wild over. They are great for all small-sized pets, and they come in a resealable bag to keep them fresh for longer.
A few things of note with this product is they are made with some artificial ingredients such as flavors and colors. What’s more, they have a higher fat content than other treats which is not as healthy for your pet. Beyond that, they are a good source of fiber which is essential to your hamster’s overall well-being.
Something else of note is these treats are not effective at cleaning teeth. On the other hand, they will relieve boredom, the chewing instinct, plus they are great for foraging and gathering games. Unfortunately, these snacks are not the greatest source of protein, yet they are easy to digest. You can also pick them up in a 3.5-ounce bag.
6. Vitakraft Hamster Treat
If your little pet enjoys a hanging treat, the Vitakraft 34701 Hamster treat is a good option for you. This snack is available in a three-ounce two-pack that is triple baked for extra crunch and flavor. Keep in mind, though, that this can make the product too hard for some small members of the family. Other than that, though, you will find that they relieve boredom and the need to chew.
The Vitakraft is made with glazed yogurt, honey, and grains, plus it also has added vitamins and minerals to keep your pet healthy. It comes with a standard clip to attach to your hamster’s cage, but it is not that durable. What’s more, the site indicates that these are made with a chewable inner wooden stick, yet that is not the case. It is only the snack through and through. This is only an issue because it’s not that long-lasting.
You should also note that the formula contains artificial colors, plus it is lower in fiber than other options; though the protein level is good. Finally, as the snack is on the harder side, cleaning teeth is not on the agenda with this option.
7. Sunseed Company Small Animal Treat
Our next option is the Sunseed Company 36022 Small Animal treat. It is a sandwich cookie-like option that is made with a cranberry and orange center. The outside “cookie” layer gives your pet a great crunch, while the inside provides a sweet flavor. That being said, the inner fruit spread can be sticky on your pet’s teeth making this snack not great for dental hygiene. Also, the formula is high in sugar as it’s the third ingredient on the list of formula items.
The Sunseed treat is oven-baked and made with all-natural ingredients. On the other hand, it’s lower in fiber levels and contains vegetable oil and salt. Although it has a great protein level, these snacks can go stale quickly. What’s more, the real garden vegetable and fruit-flavored snacks are too big for smaller hamsters.
8. Brown’s Tropical Carnival Seeds Treat
The Brown’s 450193 Tropical Carnival Seeds Treat is a trail-mix style snack that is made of striped sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, squash seeds, cantaloupe, and watermelon seeds. Not only is this a great option for foraging, gathering, and hiding, but it also provides your pet with immune support and other vitamins and minerals.
The Brown’s treats are all-natural without any sugars or salt. That being said, a lot of hamsters are not a fan of this treat as it too closely resembles their normal food. What’s more, a good amount of the treat can be wasted if you have a picky pet that only takes their favorite pieces. You should also note that this formula is high in fat and low in protein.
Something else to consider is the fiber levels. Although fiber is important, it is so high in this hamster treat that it can cause digestive issues. Finally, you will not be able to relieve boredom, chewing energy, or help keep your pet’s teeth clean with this snack.
9. Wild Harvest Pretzel Treats
In the number nine position, we have the Wild Harvest P-84133 Pretzel Treats. As the name suggests, this is a pretzel snack that comes in a 3.5-ounce resealable bag of red and green snacks for your hamster. They are oven-baked with a crunchy and tasty flavor. Unfortunately, you should note that they are made with artificial colors, plus they are very high in sugar.
These treats are on the hard side and many pets will become bored with them or not go near that at all. Also, they are not great for cleaning teeth or promoting the chewing instinct. Plus, they are too big for foraging. You should also note that they are lower in fiber and protein, plus they don’t contain any other vitamins and minerals.
10. Supreme Tiny Friends Farm Lovelies Hamster Treats
Our final option is the Supreme Tiny Friends Farm Lovelies hamster treats. These mini cookies come in a 4.2-ounce bag and are baked with strawberry, banana, and apricot. They are also made in bright yellow, red, and orange, although the brand uses artificial colors in their formula. On the other hand, they are made with added vitamins.
These snacks are not great for cleaning your pet’s teeth, plus they are high in sugar and salt. They also contain soy and are hard to digest. Unfortunately, most hamsters do not like them, and they are very hard. Something else to be aware of is they are low in protein and fiber levels. All in all, these are our least favorite options for a hamster treat.
Important Tips About Your Hamster and Their Treats
Your tiny hamster has a big personality with a lot of energy. A lot of people are surprised at the enrichment level that your pet needs to be happy and healthy. Normally, hamsters in the wild have a lot of space to roam, forage, hide, and explore. In captivity, they have a narrower lifestyle, however, that does not mean that they cannot have a well-rounded existence.
Hamster treats are a great example of an enrichment product. These little snacks can add a lot of value to their life.
We hope that you have enjoyed the above reviews on our top hamster treats. With so many options available on the market it can be difficult to pick out a snack that will be good for your tiny pet. In our opinion, the Oxbow Simple Rewards Oven-Baked Treats are the best option. They are all-natural, oven-baked, and come in a variety of flavors that your pet can chew on. If you need a more affordable option, try the Kaytee 100037504 Timothy Biscuits Baked Treat.
