The 9 Best Indoor Rabbit Cages
1. Aivituvin XZ7001 Large Indoor Rabbit Hutch – Best Overall
|Dimensions:||40.6 x 26 x 37.3 inches|
The Aivituvin XZ7001 Large Indoor Rabbit Hutch is easily the best overall indoor rabbit hutch available. Crafted from durable, solid fir wood, this rabbit house is a fortress of strength. The makers understand the ins and outs of bunny care, as they’ve equipped this hutch with large access doors and a waterproof roof. No need to worry about struggling during cleaning time—open the roof, pluck out your adorable companion, and quickly clean away.
One of the features we appreciate the most is the deep, no-leak plastic pull-out tray. Not only does it make cleanup a breeze, but it also prevents our fluffy friends from wading in their waste.
Safety is paramount, and they’ve nailed it with the anti-slip ramp. Thanks to this clever addition, our little hoppers can now navigate their abode quickly and safely. The hutch comes with four wheels for easy movement. Need to redecorate your living room? Simply roll your bunny’s palace to a new spot temporarily (or not so temporarily).
This luxurious hutch includes a metal feeder for easy snacking and a chew toy to entertain them. Not to mention the barrier edge that helps keep hay in place, ensuring cleanliness.
2. Aivituvin AIR35 Indoor & Outdoor Bunny Hutch – Best Value
|Dimensions:||40.6 x 26 x 34.4 inches|
The Aivituvin AIR35 Indoor & Outdoor Bunny Hutch is on the larger side, but it is much less expensive than other options on the market. For this reason, we consider it the best indoor rabbit hutch for the money. It’s a fantastic budget option!
It boasts two removable metal wire nettings, providing a secure environment while allowing for plenty of airflow. Maintaining a sanitary living space for our furry companions becomes much easier with two no-leak, deep pull-out trays. The mobility of this bunny home is a standout feature. Equipped with four wheels and brakes, you can effortlessly move the hutch around your abode. Now your adorable hop-alongs can accompany you wherever you roam within the house.
Durability is key, and the Aivituvin AIR35 delivers. Its stainless-steel casters and latches ensure strength and longevity, while an extra sliding door offers the versatility to connect or separate the upper and lower levels as needed. The two access doors provide easy entry and exit for your fluffy pals. This delightful hutch also includes a metal feeder for hassle-free snacking and a chew toy to keep them entertained and their teeth in tip-top shape. The barrier edge is a boon, keeping hay in its rightful place and minimizing mess.
Sadly, this hutch shows signs of wear and tear sooner than expected. The trays and top hatch door are the center of these issues. It’s crucial to note that the manufacturer’s customer service may require disassembling and returning the entire hutch in such cases, which can be quite an ordeal.
3. New Age Pet Ecoflex Park Avenue Indoor Animal Hutch – Premium Choice
|Materials:||Wood & Stainless Steel|
|Dimensions:||43.3 x 23.6 x 23.6 inches|
The New Age Pet Ecoflex Park Avenue Indoor Animal Hutch provides rabbit lovers with a premium option with many extra features. Crafted with ECOFLEX, a durable wood plastic composite, this hutch offers strength and sustainability. The scratch-resilient polycarbonate front piece grants us a complete view of your precious pet’s living space.
Perfect for rabbits and other tiny animals, this hutch can comfortably accommodate up to two average-size rabbits. Ample airflow is provided thanks to the stainless-steel mesh hinged lid. We recommend the jumbo size for most rabbits, which is the particular option we reviewed. The moisture-resistant design deserves a round of applause. It controls odors and messes, ensuring a clean living environment for your fluffy companions. Plus, it’s easy to clean with the ECOFLEX pull-out tray.
Assembly is a breeze, with only a slight hiccup reported regarding the top hut. Some have experienced leaking issues, but it’s worth noting that our fluffy friends can be pretty creative with their messes. There have been reports of pieces not fitting correctly during assembly. Paying attention to these nuances and ensuring a snug fit to avoid potential leaks is essential.
4. A&E Cage Company 26-in Deluxe 2-Tier Small Animal Cage
|Materials:||Metal & Plastic|
|Dimensions:||32 x 21 x 26 inches|
While it didn’t make our top three, the A&E Cage Company 26-in Deluxe 2-Tier Small Animal Cage is a good option for those looking for more of a cage-style living quarter instead of a hutch-style.
This cage is designed with the comfort and convenience of small pets in mind. It features a drop-down door/ramp, allowing our little fluff balls to easily enter and exit. Plus, including shelves provides ample space for your rabbits to rest and explore. Portability is a breeze with the four casters that accompany this cage. Now you can effortlessly move your pet’s haven from one room to another, ensuring they remain an integral part of the household adventures.
One aspect that brings peace of mind is the safe powder-coated finish of this cage. It provides durability and is completely safe for rabbits.
One of the hole inserts for the cage wheels did not align perfectly for some customers, requiring a bit of DIY finesse to carve a larger hole. While this may have been a minor hiccup, it’s crucial to watch during assembly and ensure all components fit snugly.
5. Aivituvin 42.1-in Two Story Rabbit Hutch
|Dimensions:||47.2 x 19.7 x 42.1 inches|
You may have noticed that we mentioned Aivituvin a lot throughout this article. That’s simply because we love their rabbit hutches, and the Aivituvin 42.1-in Two-Story Rabbit Hutch is no different. This hutch can be used both indoors and out. However, it works best inside, as the wood isn’t the most durable when put up against the outdoor elements.
Constructed with premium materials, this rabbit hutch is built to last. The inclusion of stairs and a platform allows your pal to effortlessly access both the upper and lower areas. The central window provides a front-row seat to all the furry antics. With four lockable front doors, accessing your cuddly companion is a breeze.
Protection is paramount, and this hutch delivers. With locking safeguards, it keeps your bunny snuggly within its hutch. Many reviews were extremely positive, as we’d expect from this company. However, we did find that this hutch probably won’t last long when used outside. The wood just isn’t that protected.
6. Aivituvin 28.3-in Indoor & Outdoor Wheeled Rabbit Hutch
|Dimensions:||40.4 x 23.6 x 28.3 inches|
The Aivituvin 28.3-in Indoor & Outdoor Wheeled Rabbit Hutch is smaller than other options, making it suitable for tiny rabbits. A removable metal wire netting above the bottom tray ensures a clean and hygienic environment. Cleaning is a breeze, thanks to the deep, no-leak pull-out tray with a generous lip to prevent spills. However, you must align the tray perfectly, or it will leak.
The four wheels allow effortless mobility, enabling you to roll the hutch to your furry friend’s favorite spot. Plus, two locking wheels keep it securely in place. Two front doors grant easy access, while the open roofs, top pen cover, and side window offer optimal visibility. All the mesh also allows for plenty of airflow, which helps prevent all sorts of diseases.
Sadly, this cage doesn’t hold up as well as some others. It tends to start breaking much quicker than other hutches.
7. Pawhut Elevated Wooden Indoor Hutch
|Dimensions:||43 x 20 x 34 inches|
Made from beautiful fir wood, the Pawhut Elevated Wooden Indoor Hutch is a traditional hutch that provides plenty of room for your rabbit. It features a large main area and a sheltered area connected by a ramp. Therefore, your rabbit can be out and about or decide to rest in the covered area.
With four swivel wheels, you can easily transport this hutch from one area to another. You can move the rabbit regularly through the house or just move it when the floor underneath needs cleaning. We like the removable tray that makes cleaning up extremely easy. The lockable doors also provide easy access to the rest of the cage but also prevent the rabbit from escaping when you don’t want them to.
We’d say that this hutch is suitable for one or two rabbits. It is larger than many hutches on this list, especially due to the two-story design.
8. Aivituvin AIR68 Wooden Indoor Rabbit House
|Dimensions:||82 x 23 x 28.6 inches|
If you have a very long area to keep your rabbit, then the Aivituvin AIR68 Wooden Indoor Rabbit House may be a suitable option. It features a middle door that can be closed to form two separate enclosures. Or you can keep it open to allow your rabbits to socialize. It works great for families with two bunnies, especially if you don’t know if they currently get along.
Two large runs allow your rabbits to enjoy their space and get plenty of exercise. You can also extend it with additional runs sold by the company (though this would make it much too long for most indoor spaces).
There are four removable trays and a wire-mesh floor to make cleanup easy. We also liked the four casters on the bottom, which help move the indoor hutch from place to place. This rabbit house is extremely expensive, though, and we found it much too big for most homes.
9. Aivituvin 28-in Indoor Rabbit Hutch
|Dimensions:||35.8 x 18.1 x 28 inches|
The Aivituvin 28-in Indoor Rabbit Hutch may work well for most rabbits. It features a removable tray like most hutches on this list. The tray is deep and pulls out easily, allowing you to quickly clean your rabbit’s home. There are two access doors and a ramp, making it easy for your rabbit to come and go as they please.
The inside divider provides a separate space for your rabbit to sleep. It makes one area more sheltered than the other, which can help prevent stress.
However, this hutch also doesn’t have wheels, which we felt was disappointing. Have you ever tried to move a massive indoor hutch without wheels? It isn’t easy. Plus, it simply isn’t as durable as it could be.
Buyer’s Guide: How to Pick the Best Indoor Rabbit Cage
There are several things you need to consider when purchasing your bunny an indoor cage. Making the correct decision now can save you a lot of frustration later. Here are the features we recommend paying the most attention to:
The hutch must be large enough for your rabbit. That’s simply a fact. If it isn’t, you’re risking all sorts of diseases and issues. A minimum recommended size is around 4–6 square feet of floor space, but the more space, the better. The cage should be spacious enough for the rabbit to move around, stand up on their hind legs, and stretch out comfortably.
As you’d imagine, larger rabbits need more space. If you have multiple rabbits, you need an even bigger hutch.
It’s best for a hutch to have solid flooring instead of wire floors. Wires can hurt your rabbit’s feet and cause infections. Plus, they’re just plain uncomfortable.
If the cage has a wire floor, provide a solid surface, such as a mat or cardboard, for the rabbit to rest on.
Without proper ventilation, your rabbit can get sick. They need good airflow to stay healthy and happy. Look for hutches with proper ventilation thanks to mesh sides or other features. The whole hutch doesn’t need to be open, as your rabbit will enjoy privacy sometimes. However, all of the hutches should have access to fresh air.
The cage should have secure doors and latches to prevent escapes and keep predators or other pets from entering. Ensure that there are no sharp edges or openings where the rabbit could get stuck or injured.
All the pieces should fit together well. Sadly, this is more of a problem than it needs to be with pre-drilled holes.
Keeping your rabbit’s cage clean is important, as it prevents diseases. Look for a cage with removable trays or bottom pans to make cleaning straightforward. These trays should be pulled out easily and deep to prevent spills (which are not fun to clean up).
Rabbits produce a significant amount of waste, so having a cage that facilitates cleaning will make the process more convenient for you and healthier for the rabbit.
Rabbits chew on everything. The hutch should withstand quite a bit of chewing. However, at the same time, it should be safe to chew. Plastic doesn’t fall into this category. Instead, you’ll find most hutches made out of thick wood for this reason. It’s completely safe for your rabbit to chew, but it can withstand a lot of chewing.
The cage should make it easy to add enrichment to your rabbit’s day. There should be plenty of room to exercise. Added ramps, tunnels, and toys can also be helpful, as they provide some built-in enrichment. You should plan on adding other toys and such to your rabbit’s hutch, though.
There are many great indoor hutches on the market. Our favorite is the Aivituvin XZ7001 Large Indoor Rabbit Hutch. It provides deep, pull-out trays for easy cleaning and is plenty large enough for most rabbit lovers.
However, if you’re looking to spend a bit less money, you may also want to consider the Aivituvin AIR35 Indoor & Outdoor Bunny Hutch. It has a lot of the same features as our top pick, but it is also suitable for outdoor use.
Hopefully, one of the indoor rabbit cages above stood out to you as the best option for your needs.
