    1. Prevue Pet Products Wrought Iron Small & Medium Birds Flight Cage – Best Overall

Prevue Pet Products Wrought Iron Small & Medium Birds Flight Cage

    Dimensions: 31”L x 20.5”W x 53”H
    Stand: Included
    Perches: Three

The more space you can provide your lovebird, the happier he will be. The Prevue Pet Products Wrought Iron Small & Medium Birds Flight Cage may seem “extra” due to its sheer size, but it’s a fantastic option, especially for multi-bird homes. This durable flight cage has two front doors and six smaller side access options. Its pull-out grill and debris catcher make cleaning easy, and the integrated storage shelf in the stand is perfect for storing your bird’s essentials. This wrought iron cage has several accessories, including three wood perches and four plastic cups for food and water. For these reasons, we believe this to be the best overall lovebird cage on the market today.

However, it is worth noting that assembly is challenging. It will require two people and some brute force to get the cage to go together as it should.

    Pros
    • Large size
    • Integrated storage shelf
    • Easy-to-clean pull-out tray
    • Plenty of access doors
    • Made of durable iron material
    Cons
    • Challenging assembly

Prevue Pet Products Small Bird Flight Cage

    Dimensions: 30”L x 18”W x 18”H
    Stand: Not included
    Perches: Two

If you’re working with a small budget, you will want to find a cage that won’t break the bank. Though the Prevue Pet Products Small Bird Flight Cage is smaller than other options on our list, it provides the best lovebird cage for the money as it is very affordable.

This budget-friendly cage comes with feeder cups and perches designed to provide the most interior space for your lovebirds. It has a pull-out debris tray for easy cleaning, and the large front door makes accessing your birds simple. There is also a smaller inset door for added safety and ease of access.

The cage is very easy to assemble. Because it is so small and lightweight, it’s easy to transport from room to room, and its carrying handles make this task even easier.

However, the floor grill is not removable, which can make thoroughly cleaning it a challenge.

    Pros
    • Affordably priced
    • Comes with feeder cups and perches
    • Large front access door
    • Removable debris tray
    • Easy to put together
    Cons
    • Floor grill is not removable

A&E Cage Company Flight Bird Cage & Stand

    Dimensions: 32”L x 21”W x 63”H
    Stand: Included
    Perches: Two

The A&E Cage Company Flight Bird Cage & Stand is priced higher than the other options on our list, but it’s one of the best options for lovebird owners without a strict budget. The cage has a removable stand and integrated storage shelf, and its large size means plenty of room for your feathered friend to fly. It has a slide-out tray and grate to make cleaning every nook and cranny a breeze and a chemical-free powder coating to keep your pet safe. The cage comes in several colors to suit your style and has two bowls and two perches that come along with it.

Assembly can take several hours, and it’s recommended to have two people on hand to complete the task. The cage weighs nearly 60 pounds, so it may be too heavy for some folks to contend with.

    Pros
    • Plenty of interior space
    • Slide out tray and grate
    • Chemical-free coating
    • Several color options
    • Comes with perches and bowls
    Cons
    • Expensive
    • Heavy
    • Hard to put together

    4. Yaheetech 54-in Rolling Metal Large Parrot Cage Mobile Bird Cage With Detachable Stand

Yaheetech 54-in Rolling Metal Large Parrot Cage Mobile Bird Cage With Detachable Stand

    Dimensions: 24.5”L x 17”W x 53.5”H
    Stand: Included
    Perches: Two

The Yaheetech 54-in Rolling Metal Large Parrot Cage Mobile Bird Cage With Detachable Stand is a spacious cage, perfect for homes with multiple lovebirds. It’s coated in water and rust-resistant paint to keep your bird safe and has a pull-out grate for easy cleaning. This affordable cage is easy to assemble and feels sturdy and durable. The stand’s integrated storage shelf can hold up to 22 pounds of accessories.

The cage doesn’t attach to the stand, which can present a safety hazard if you’re not careful or have small children in the home. Additionally, the plastic bowls that come with the cage are quite flimsy. They may or may not work for your lovebird.

    Pros
    • Spacious design
    • Non-toxic paint
    • Pull-out grate
    • Affordable price
    • Easy to assemble
    Cons
    • Poor quality plastic bowls
    • Cage doesn’t attach to stand

    5. Yaheetech Flight Extra Space With Slide-Out Tray Bird Cage

Yaheetech Flight Extra Space With Slide-Out Tray Bird Cage

    Dimensions: 30.5”L x 18.5”W x 18”H
    Stand: Not included
    Perches: Two

The Yaheetech Flight Extra Space With Slide-out Tray Bird Cage is a smaller cage for folks with little room to spare for their birds. Its main door opens two ways for easy access, and the supplementary doors are perfect for facilitating food or water changes. The cage fits nicely on a desk or table and is small enough to take with you anywhere. It arrives partially put together, so finishing the rest of the assembly is simple.

The cage is quite cheap, which may be part of the reason it feels so flimsy. It may work better as a travel cage than a permanent home for your lovebird.

    Pros
    • Affordable price
    • Easy assembly
    • Fits nicely on tables or desks
    • Great for travel
    Cons
    • Not super sturdy
    • Not ideal for a permanent home

    6. Vision II Model L12 Bird Cage

Vision II Model L12 Bird Cage

    Dimensions: 5″L x 15″W x 36.5″H
    Stand: Not Included
    Perches: Four

Like most of the cages that this company produces, the Vision II Model L12 Bird Cage has an innovative design. The whole bottom comes off for cleaning, instead of utilizing a grate and pull-out drawer. A debris design keeps food and everything else safely inside the cage, which is always a nice plus.

However, this cage is extremely expensive for what it is. While it is described as large, it is not nearly as big as some other flight cages.

Also, some of the innovative features don’t transfer well to the real world. For instance, the cage doesn’t seem to stay attached well, so you can’t move it anywhere or the bottom will fall off. Many people use zip-ties and other methods for keeping the cage together. For the price, this shouldn’t be necessary.

    Pros
    • Large
    • Innovative cleaning design
    • Perches and food bowls included
    Cons
    • Expensive
    • Not as big as other “large” cages
    • Poor design

    7. A&E Cage Company Open Top Dome Bird Cage & Removable Stand

A&E Open Top Dome Cage & Stand

    Dimensions: 22″L x 17″W x 58″H
    Stand: Included
    Perches: One

The A&E Cage Company Open Top Dome Bird Cage & Removable Stand is quite roomy, especially for the price. It comes with its own stand that is easily removable. The top is dome-shaped and opens up to allow for easy access. It has a traditional slide-out tray for easy cleaning. The design is made out of metal and coated for longevity.

Overall, this is an average birdcage. It is made of basic metal wire and includes everything that you’d expect.

The assembly is a bit difficult, though, which seems to be a common problem with A&E bird cages. You will likely need multiple people to help assemble it. The parts don’t exactly click together as they should, but it is relatively solid once you get everything together. The whole thing is a bit heavy, so don’t plan on moving it around that much.

    Pros
    • Dome-shaped
    • Top opens up
    • Traditional slide-out tray
    Cons
    • Difficult to assemble
    • Heavy
    • Small doors

    8. A&E Cage Company Economy Dome Top Bird Cage

A&E Economy Dome Top Bird Cage

    Dimensions: 20″L x 20″W x 58″H
    Stand: Included
    Perches: One

A&E typically makes good cages. However, the A&E Cage Company Economy Dome Top Bird Cage is a bit disappointing. It is flimsier than most other cages, and the openings to access the food are difficult to open. The parts don’t fit together well, which makes the assembly frustrating. The instructions aren’t clear either, so plan on spending a great deal of time trying to put it together.

The only upside is that this cage does look pretty. However, much of the aesthetic is ruined when you get closer, as the flimsiness of the cage is quite obvious.

The actual cage part is made of metal, but the pull-out tray is plastic. The cage does include a slide-out tray for easy cleaning, and the stand has a shelf for storage. There are a few different colors available.

    Pros
    • Shelf for storage
    • Metal
    Cons
    • Difficult to assemble
    • Flimsy
    • Expensive for the quality

    9. MidWest Avian Adventures Nina Dometop Bird Cage

    MidWest Dometop Bird Cage

    Dimensions: 75″L x 28.75″W x 59″H
    Stand: Included
    Perches: One

Compared to some other cages, the MidWest Avian Adventures Nina Dometop Bird Cage is quite expensive. You aren’t getting much extra for the price either. There are many reports of shipping problems. For instance, some buyers found that certain pieces were missing, which makes it nearly impossible to put the cage together. Other people reported receiving broken and bent parts. This seems to occur no matter what website you purchase the cage from.

If you do get all the pieces, the cage doesn’t have a straightforward assembly and is quite flimsy. If shipping can easily bend pieces, you can imagine that it will also bend easily while in use.

On a good note, this cage does have three stainless-steel food cups. This is more than what most other bird cages have. However, only one perch is included, where most cages this size have three or more.

    Pros
    • Three stainless-steel food cups
    Cons
    • Expensive
    • Difficult to assemble
    • Pieces often come broken or completely missing
    • Only one perch included

Buyer’s Guide: Choosing the Best Lovebird Cage

Your bird will spend most of its time in a cage. Therefore, it is important to select a cage that is high-quality without breaking the bank. A low-quality cage can make bird care difficult and even lead to health problems. No cage should make caring for your bird harder than it should be.

While most bird cages are pretty much the same, there are small features that set them apart from each other. Different birds need different cages. Some birds are active and therefore need a bigger cage. Other birds are fine with a smaller cage because they don’t move around much.

In this section, we help you sort through what exactly your lovebird needs so you can select the best cage for your feathered friend.

    Size

The size of the cage is essential. If the cage is the wrong size, you can’t expect your bird to be happy. Lovebirds are quite active, so they will need a larger cage than some other species of birds. They may not be the largest bird around, but they require plenty of flying room to remain happy and healthy. In general, a minimum of 32”L x 20”W x 20”H is suggested. You can keep the bird in a smaller cage, but this is not generally recommended.

    Number of Perches

Lovebirds prefer to move around all the time. To get the appropriate amount of exercise, they need plenty of places to move to. At least four perches are recommended for a pair of birds. This provides enough room for them to sit and helps them stay active. They likely won’t be too happy if they just have a perch or two because this won’t provide them with many opportunities to move around.

Sadly, most cages do not come with this many perches. Most available on the market only come with two. Even three perches are a stretch to find in many cases.

For this reason, you’ll likely need to add perches after you purchase your cage. Be sure your cage is large enough for this, though. Some cages are simply too small to accommodate more than two perches.

    Accessories

Many bird cages advertise their large number of accessories. However, this is not that high on the list of priorities. Cups and similar accessories can easily be switched out if you don’t like the ones that your cage comes with. There is no reason that you have to keep the default options. Many accessories are the same size, which makes it easier to switch them out as necessary.

Therefore, you shouldn’t worry too much about whether you like the feeding bowls that come with a cage, for example. You can always change them later. However, you should be concerned about the unchangeable features of the cage. You can’t change how large it is, for instance.

    Ease to Clean

You will need to clean the cage regularly. Cleaning is a major part of bird care. Some cages make this quite easy, while others do not. You’re going to spend a great deal of time cleaning the cage, so it is important that the process is as straightforward as possible.

The traditional cage design includes a grate bottom and a tray underneath that. You simply pull out the tray, clean it, and then move on. The grate will also need to be cleaned because it will get dirty. You may not need to clean it as much as the tray, though. Many birds don’t mind having a grated bottom because they’ll spend much of their time on the perches, anyway.

Some cages have tried to change this old recipe, though. There are currently many innovative designs on the market. For instance, there are quite a few cages that are designed for the whole bottom to come off. There is no grate or tray; instead, you simply snap off the bottom and clean it.

Which one you choose is largely up to personal preference. Some people prefer the tray, while others don’t like cleaning the grate that comes with it.

    Waste Guard

If you have a metal cage, waste and birdseed are going to end up outside the cage. Whenever your bird decides to scatter their seeds, they will end up all over the floor. Some people don’t mind cleaning this up, while others will put a high price on preventing it. Like most things, it is a matter of personal preference.

Where you keep the cage also matters. If you keep your cage on a hard floor, cleaning usually isn’t an issue. Carpet can complicate things, though.

Many bird cages now come with a waste guard. This prevents waste from ending up on the floor. However, this does leave you with something extra to clean. While the waste guard will simply need to be wiped down, this is still another thing that you’ll have to add to your cleaning list.

    Ventilation

Ventilation is essential for lovebirds—and any bird, for that matter. Without the proper ventilation, birds can become sick quite easily. Stale, moist air is more prone to bacterial growth. Plus, birds prefer plenty of air movement. They’re used to living in trees, after all.

Waste guards and certain cage designs can easily get in the way of airflow. When you’re shopping, be sure to consider how easily air can move through the cage. Typically, simple cages made with just bars perform well in this category. It’s all the extra “innovative” designs that might create a problem.

    Aesthetic

Some bird cages are not obviously designed to be pretty. Many are created with simple functionality in mind. They can house a bird well and that’s all they were designed for.

However, depending on where you’re placing it, you may be interested in a nicer-looking cage. Typically, these will cost more. There are a few nice cages on the market today, but many are double or even triple the price of basic cages. Some are not that well designed either. Manufacturers may skip on function for form.

Of course, even if aesthetics are important to you, you still want a cage that will house your bird comfortably. Don’t sacrifice other features just for a nice-looking cage.

    Sturdiness

Some bird cages are quite flimsy. If the bars of the cage are made with a lower-quality material, they can bend and bow under a bit of pressure. Because cages often don’t have any other way to hold themselves up, the quality of the individual bars is important. Otherwise, the cage may easily come undone.

If the cage is in multiple pieces, how well these pieces hold together also matters. If the top of the cage seems like it will fall off any time it moves, it probably isn’t suitable for your bird.

    Conclusion

There are many different cages to choose from on the market. They come in many diverse sizes and a range of features. The one you pick for your lovebirds depends on your planned setup and preferences.

For most people, we recommend the Prevue Pet Products Wrought Iron Small & Medium Birds Flight Cage. It is a simple, inexpensive cage that is quite large. It isn’t fancy, but you won’t find something as big in this price range. If you’re just looking for something to effectively house your birds, this is a good option.

If you’re on a budget, you may want to look at the Vision II Model S01 Bird Cage. It is extremely inexpensive compared to other cages, but this is mainly because it is smaller than most. It can only properly house one bird or a single pair of younger birds. However, its other features are spot-on.

Hopefully, our reviews helped you get a glance at what lovebird cages are available out there. We recommend reading the reviews carefully and choosing the model that best fits your preferences and space.
