Does Pet Valu Sell Animals? Do They Sell Fish?

Pet Valu Store

Pet Valu is a small-format pet specialty retailer. The company consists of Pet Valu, Bosley’s by Pet Valu, Total Pet, and Tisol Pet Nutrition & Supply. In total, there are over 600 stores throughout Canada.

In 2020, it was announced that Pet Valu stores in the United States would be closing due to the impacts of COVID-19. These animal care experts can still be found throughout Canada to help you meet your pet’s needs. The stores are animal-friendly, so your leashed pup can join you while you shop.

While Pet Valu may have everything that you need for your pets, does it sell animals and fish? The answer varies depending on the store.

Most Pet Valu stores do not sell animals. However, some sell Betta fish and small mammals. Read on for more information about this company.

Live Animals at Pet Valu

If you’re looking to purchase a new puppy or kitten, Pet Valu is not the place to look. This store does not carry dogs and cats for purchase. In the age of people becoming more aware of where pet store puppies and kittens come from, this is a good thing. Customers like shopping at Pet Valu because the company does not support puppy and kitten mills.

Pet Valu varies when it comes to other animals, though. While many stores don’t carry live animals at all, certain locations have fish available for purchase. If you’re interested in buying a specific fish, small mammal, or bird, it’s suggested that you call your local Pet Valu store for more information.

Dogs at Pet Valu

While dogs are not available for purchase at Pet Valu, the company partners with local rescues to help adoptable dogs find forever homes. Many Pet Valu stores have Pet Adoption areas that showcase dogs from humane societies and SPCA branches.

The dogs aren’t available in the stores at all times, though. Your local store’s website will have pet adoption events listed, when the animals will be there for those days only. This way, you can plan to be there and meet your new best friend.

Cats at Pet Valu

Some Pet Valu stores have permanent adoption areas. Cats are brought in from local rescues and housed in cages in these adoption areas at all times. You can stop by and see them during your shopping trip.

Cats are also brought in during adoption event days, especially if the store does not have a place to house cats full-time.

Other Pet Valu Services

Grooming

Many Pet Valu stores have self-service dog wash stations. These have everything that you need to scrub your pup. This is convenient for those who don’t have large areas to bathe their dog or who don’t want to go through the hassle of having to clean their bathroom. After the bath, you and your dog can shop for supplies.

If that still doesn’t make you want to bathe your dog yourself, Pet Valu also offers grooming services. Groomingdale’s Pet Grooming pet spas offer a full-service menu. Baths, haircuts, nail clippings, and more are available. Just make an appointment and enjoy the convenience!

Raw Diets

If you’re interested in feeding your dog a raw diet but don’t know where to begin, the pet experts at Pet Valu can help answer all your questions and steer you in the right direction. Many stores offer a variety of frozen raw food.

Helping Animals

Since 2010, Pet Valu has raised over $19 million for animal rescues, shelters, and charities. Its adoption events have found homes for over 32,000 pets. Pet Valu is dedicated to giving back, and its work to help animals in need is proof of that.

Final Thoughts

Many Pet Valu stores don’t sell animals. None of the stores sell puppies or kittens. However, many stores hold adoption events that showcase dogs and cats looking for forever homes. Some stores even regularly house cats to promote their adoptions.

If you’re looking for a specific fish, small mammal, or bird, you should call your local Pet Valu for information. Each store differs, and since many don’t carry any live animals, it’s best to check first.

Pet Valu offers other services, including grooming and raw diet advice. It’s a pet-friendly franchise that will welcome you and your leashed pet as you shop.
