What Is FirstVet? How Does It Work?

Have you ever wondered if something your pet is experiencing is normal? Have you ever debated whether they actually need to go to the vet? Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to talk to a vet before you went in to see if it was necessary?

That’s essentially the premise behind FirstVet. For one low price, you get unlimited virtual consults with registered vets. While they can only prescribe medications in some states, they can answer any questions that you might have.

It’s like having a friend who’s a vet that you can call whenever you need advice or clarification. It’s not a substitute for taking your pet to the vet, but FirstVet’s experts can help guide you and decide if you do need to take your pet in.

They can help save you money from unnecessary vet visits, and they can point you in the right direction if there are any issues that you’re having with your pet and you don’t know what you should do.

FirstVet Pricing

The top selling point for FirstVet has to be the price. At just $90 for unlimited vet visits for a year, you’re not going to find a more affordable way to talk to a vet about all the pet questions you have.

Even better, it’s truly unlimited. Once you pay for the subscription, you don’t need to worry about paying to talk to a vet about any questions or concerns that you might have with your animal.

What to Expect From FirstVet

When you’re signing up for FirstVet, it’s essential that you get your expectations in order. You’re going to get quick and easy access to a vet through virtual visits. FirstVet is simply an excellent service to help you decide if you need to go to an in-person vet. They can also answer any common questions that you might have about specific behaviors or conditions. FirstVet can also write prescriptions if you’re located in New York or New Jersey and can fulfill prescriptions in all states.

Quick and Easy Access to a Vet

This was the most surprising thing about FirstVet for me. As soon as I signed up, I was able to schedule an appointment with a vet just 1.5 hours later. Even better, after that, I had access to appointment scheduling in 15-minute intervals at any point during the day or night.

It was quick and easy access to a vet in less time than it would have taken me to get my animal in the car and to the vet, let alone have an appointment!

Affordably Priced

FirstVet has two ways to sign up for its service, either a 6-month subscription or a 12-month subscription. The 6-month plan is $65, while the 12-month plan is $90. Either way, you’re getting an extremely affordable product, considering how you get unlimited access to video chat with a registered vet.

What About Prescriptions?

Before you subscribe to FirstVet, know that in most states, you will need a separate veterinarian to write prescriptions. New York and New Jersey are the exceptions to this. This seems to be the top complaint with FirstVet, so just know what you’re getting into before signing up. You can fill prescriptions using FirstVet no matter where you’re located in the US.

FirstVet does have an online pharmacy where you can bring prescriptions and compare pricing at local and national pharmacies. This is a convenient option that could certainly help you find a better price.

Is FirstVet a Good Value?

Yes. For just $90, you get unlimited video chats with a registered vet to answer any questions that you might have about your vet. Considering that the office visit fee for most vets start at $50, after just two uses, FirstVet pays for itself.

Just know that if your vet does need to check out your pet to prescribe them medication, you’ll still end up paying the office fee when you take your animal in.

Our Experience With FirstVet

I went into FirstVet without really knowing what I was getting myself into. I put in my information and then put in my pet’s information. The entire process took about 5 minutes, and then it wanted me to set up a virtual appointment for my pet.

It was quick and easy, and I went from not knowing what to expect to having a face-to-face conversation with a registered vet in no time. If you’re looking for a quick, easy, and convenient service, FirstVet is as good as it gets.

However, I was expecting a bit more. Instead, all you can do is set up virtual vet appointments. It’s a great service, but I wish that it offered something more, even just helpful articles about common questions that pet owners have. The service feels like it’s missing something.

But even so, there’s no denying the great deal that you’re getting for this phenomenal service.

Conclusion

Considering how affordable FirstVet is, I highly recommend giving it a chance. You get quick and easy access to a vet who’s willing to answer any questions that you might have.

This takes all the stress and pressure off you and instead, puts it in the hands of a professional, so you know that you’re making the right decision either way.
