What is the Litter-Robot 3 Connect? How Does It Work?

Litter-Robot 3 Connect

If you’re sick of constantly cleaning your cat’s litter box, you will be thrilled to learn about the Litter-Robot 3 Connect (I know I was!). I had the chance to review this product recently and, thus far, have loved it. This electronic, self-cleaning litter box does all the work of cleaning up your pet’s waste; all you need to do is dump the waste drawer out every few days. Overall, this product is excellent; my cats and I are huge fans of it! Though, this might not be the best litter box for you if you have particularly skittish cats.

The Litter-Robot 3 Connect is extremely easy to use. However, it may take you a few days to figure out how the buttons work—there are only four buttons on the machine, but each can do more than one thing depending on the time you hold it down for. The litter box is also quite large, so it requires you to have enough space to place it in. But this electronic box certainly makes life as a cat owner simpler!

Where to Get the Litter-Robot 3 Connect

Litter-Robot 3 Connect Pricing

One of the downsides of the Litter-Robot 3 is that it’s expensive; there’s no way around it. That said, considering the benefits, you might find the price well worth it.

What to Expect from the Litter-Robot 3 Connect

When the Litter-Robot 3 Connect arrives, you might be shocked at the size of the box it comes in. It is humongous! Thankfully, though the Litter-Robot 3 Connect is also large, it’s not nearly as large as the box makes it out to be (and despite the hugeness of the packaging, the litter box is easy to remove).

Once you’ve removed the Litter-Robot 3 Connect from the box, you only need to attach the cord to the back of the litter box and plug it in! Then, throw some litter in there, and you’re good to go.

It’s recommended that you don’t turn the box on for a couple of days until your cats get used to it. That gives you time to browse the manual and figure out the buttons, so you can pick the kind of cycle you want the litter box to be on for emptying, or you can simply press the power button and let it run as is.

The Litter-Robot also comes with an app that will let you know when it’s gone through a clean cycle and tell you when it’s time to dump the waste drawer. It’s nice but not essential to using the litter box.

Quality

The quality of the Litter-Robot 3 Connect is top-notch. The litter box looks good and, thus far, has worked extremely well. The only issue I encountered was when the litter box would occasionally seem to pop out of the cycle mode and not empty itself. I did some research, though, and found that this happened with other pet owners when their cats figured out how to press the buttons. So, I’m assuming that’s what’s also happened with mine, as I could find nothing wrong with it.

Ease of Use

This litter box is so simple to use. You can literally just plug it in and move on if you want. The only work required is emptying the waste drawer, which doesn’t take long. The single issue I’ve had with emptying was replacing the liner–if you aren’t careful, you can pinch your fingers on the little tabs that hold the liner in place. And deep cleaning is a breeze as you can simply remove the globe to wipe it down.

Safety

I was a bit concerned about how safe the Litter-Robot 3 Connect would be. After all, what happens if cats jump into the litter box while it’s trying to cycle? Luckily, my cats haven’t done that, but if it were to occur, the litter box should immediately stop. Because it works by sensing when your cat is inside and when your cat has exited, it will recognize if your pet jumps in when it shouldn’t.

Size

The Litter-Robot 3 Connect really is extremely large (30L x 27W x 24H inches), so you require a bit of space to put it in (especially since it can’t go against a wall due to the rotation of the globe). If you live in a smaller home, this litter box might not fit.

divider-catIs Litter-Robot 3 Connect a Good Value?

The Litter-Robot 3 Connect is definitely on the pricey side. So, the question becomes—is the price worth it?

I believe so. Over time, you’ll save money on litter, but more than that, it just makes your life so much easier. Let’s face it, no one enjoys litter box cleaning, and taking that off your plate makes life much more enjoyable.

FAQ

Just how large is the Litter-Robot 3 Connect?

The Litter-Robot is nearly 30 inches tall, 27 inches from front to back, and 24 inches from side to side.

How many cats can use a single Litter-Robot 3 Connect?

The company says a single Litter-Robot 3 Connect is good for 2-3 cats to use. If you have more than that, you might want to get a second one—though that’s up to you!

How does the Litter-Robot 3 Connect keep my cat safe?

The Litter-Robot 3 Connect uses a variety of sensors to tell when your cat is in or has exited the litter box. If your cat jumps in while the Litter-Robot is going through a cleaning cycle, it will automatically stop so your pet isn’t harmed.

What litter should be used with the Litter-Robot 3 Connect?

Standard, clumping clay litter is the best litter to use with this litter box. But, so long as the litter you’re using clumps, it will work.

Is there a weight limit with the Litter-Robot 3 Connect?

There’s no weight limit; almost any size cat will fit this litter box. That said, extremely large cats might feel a bit squished inside, though they will still be able to use it. However, your cat should be over 5 pounds for the Litter-Robot. Cats under 5 pounds (like kittens) likely won’t be heavy enough to set off the sensor that tells the box when your cat has entered and exited (which triggers the cleaning cycle), so they could get injured.

What does the 1-Year WhiskerCare™ warranty include?

This 1-year warranty offers comprehensive protection for your litter box for an entire year. This means it covers damage caused by accidents, electrical breakdowns and power surges, mechanical breakdowns, and software support. Any issues that occur during this year will be resolved at no charge to you. This includes free shipping if a product needs to be returned/replaced.

Our Experience with the Litter-Robot 3 Connect

Although I was excited to try it out, I was a little wary of the Litter-Robot 3 Connect at first. This is primarily because of my youngest cat, Jasper, a 1-year-old Siamese that is afraid of everything. If he comes across a piece of fuzz lying on the floor, he will jump away from it as if burned. With the way the Connect cleans itself by rotating, I wasn’t positive that he would use it. I wasn’t too worried about my other Siamese, Serafina. She’s 8-years-old and hates almost everything, but she isn’t opposed to trying new things (and isn’t a scaredy-cat). However, I was pleasantly surprised.

The Litter-Robot 3 Connect manual suggests you don’t turn the litter box on for the first couple of days to get your pet used to it, so that’s what I did. While Serafina tried the new litter box out on the first day, I had to pick Jasper up and place him inside. Once inside, though, he understood what it was for and was fine.

My fears of Jasper being scared of the cleaning process ended up being completely unfounded because he is obsessed with it. Every time the cleaning cycle begins, he dashes off from whatever room he’s in to watch it and stick his paw in to catch the waste being cleaned out; he seems to believe it’s a toy. Overall, my cats haven’t had any issues with it, which is fabulous.

As for myself, I love not having to scoop out the litter box every day. With the Litter-Robot 3 Connect, I only need to empty the waste basket every 3-4 days, which takes 5 minutes to complete. One thing I discovered is the “light” type of clumping litter makes things much messier—let me tell you, it sticks to everything inside the Litter-Robot 3 Connect. I absolutely do not recommend using that kind of litter.

I also very much enjoy the automatic night light feature on the Litter-Robot. While it’s technically for the cats, it’s been a great help to me.

After a month of use, I’ve not had any significant issues with the litter box, and Serafina, Jasper, and I are more than happy!

Final Verdict

The Litter-Robot 3 Connect may be expensive, but it certainly simplifies life as a cat owner. While no product is perfect, and the Litter-Robot has its minor issues, my cats and I love it. There’s no more scooping litter and cleaning it out only takes minutes. The connected app lets me know when to empty the waste drawer, and the nightlight is a bonus for everyone. Plus, my youngest cat loves to watch it run, so he stays entertained. The downsides would be the size, the fact that it won’t be able to sense cats that weigh under 5 pounds, and the potential for extra-large cats to not have enough room inside.

However, all in all, I can highly recommend the Litter-Robot 3 Connect for the quality, ease of use, and freedom of knowing you don’t have to clean out a litter box every day!
