Pet Keen advocates for adopting before shopping. We understand there are many reasons for seeking a breeder, though, so we encourage it to be done the right way. We have not personally investigated all of the breeders below, rather, we have gathered their details for you to get in touch and ask all the right questions before you decide. Learn more about our position and how to choose a breeder here.

If you’re looking for the perfect pet, a Ragdoll kitten may just be it. These cats are strikingly gorgeous and incredibly easygoing, and their tendency to just go limp and enjoy being picked up is what gives them their name.

This makes it hard to track one down when you want one, though, as they’re hard to find at rescues or shelters. So, if you live in California, you’ll need to find a reputable breeder, and the best breeders in the state are on this list.

The 9 Ragdoll Kitten Breeders in California

1. The Ragdoll Queen Cattery

  • Murrieta, CA

The owner of this cattery is a veterinary technician, so you can rest assured that your new cat will be given the best care possible before they’re handed over to you. The breeder cats are tested for diseases before breeding, minimizing the risk that your kitten will have any issues after birth.

The cattery is registered with the International Cat Association (TICA), and a few of their kittens have champion bloodlines. If you’re hoping to show your new kitten, adopting them from The Ragdoll Queen Cattery is an important step in the right direction.

2. Ruby Ridge Rags

While Ruby Ridge Rags has produced their fair share of show champions, you’d never know it by seeing how these cats interact with their owners. They’re loving and loyal pets, through and through, which likely has something to do with the fact that they’re raised with free run of the cattery.

While the cattery is located in Riverside County near Los Angeles, people come from all over to adopt these cats, as they have clients from Arizona, Nevada, and northern California.

3. AdorableDolls

No one can argue that the cats at AdorableDolls don’t lead a pampered existence. As soon as they’re weaned, their cats are fed a largely raw diet consisting of chicken, pork, and turkey, with high-quality wet food mixed in to round out the nutritional profile.

This ensures that they build lean, muscular bodies, and proper nutrition as kittens greatly reduces the chances that they’ll suffer from health problems later in life. Adding in the canned food has the benefit of getting them accustomed to it, so you won’t have to spend weeks transitioning them to a new food.

4. FurReal Ragdolls

  • Sacramento, CA

All the breeding done at FurReal Ragdolls is with the breed standard in mind. Each generation is created in an attempt to sharpen the eye color, improve the chin structure, and build up the body size.

That said, these kittens make fantastic pets. They’re kept in a loving home, ensuring that they’ll have calm, affectionate personalities. The breeders regularly attend nutritional seminars to stay up to date on all the advances in the feline diet.

5. Swafford’s Ragdoll Cafe

The owners of Swafford’s Ragdoll Café also have a Labrador breeding program, so they’re well-versed in raising affectionate, easygoing pets. All their cats live among the family and other cats, ensuring that they’re well-socialized.

This is a TICA-registered cattery, so your new cat will come with papers documenting their premium bloodlines. If you’re lucky, that new kitten may just have gotten to spend time with Labradors, making them socialized to live among dogs too.

6. Rock Creek Ranch Ragdolls

The kittens from Rock Creek Ranch have champion bloodlines, and their previous cats include TICA’s top Ragdoll for 2007, Lance. Their kittens are never caged but are allowed to wander and live among the family inside their home.

They get to spend time with children and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, ensuring that they’re comfortable in all sorts of situations by the time they join your pack. This is a small cattery, though, so their litters aren’t big and tend to go quickly.

7. Angel Haven Ragdolls

  • San Diego, CA

The cats from Angel Haven come in all sorts of colors and patterns, so if you have an ideal cat in mind, they can likely accommodate you. The breeders make sure to spend time with each of their kittens, including holding them at length, so they should be completely used to people by the time they enter your home.

You can ensure that you get the color or pattern of your choice ahead of time by placing deposits on kittens before they become available. As a result, though, there’s quite a lengthy waiting list, so it may take a while to bring your cat home.

8. Ragdoll Kittens by Kelly

  • Orange County, CA

At Ragdoll Kittens by Kelly, your new kitten gets premium healthcare long before they’re even born, as the mothers are all given ultrasounds, X-rays, and DNA testing during their pregnancies.

The website is put together quite well too, with plenty of information for new owners so they can raise their kittens properly. The owners are quite responsive, so if you have any other questions or issues, it’s easy to get a quick answer.

9. True Blue Ragdolls

  • Temecula, CA

True Blue proudly displays their TICA certification on the front page of their website, and they’re equally up front about all other aspects of their cattery. The owners have a strong background in feline aesthetics, including nail-clipping and blow-drying, so your cat will be accustomed to being groomed from a young age.

The adoption process is clearly spelled out, as is their pricing, and they will even sell breeding rights for an additional fee. Until you get your kitten, you can follow their growth and development on the cattery’s Instagram page.
