wagmo-review-featured-image-pk

Wagmo is a small pet insurance provider that is gaining strides in the marketplace for pet insurance. The company offers pet insurance for injuries and unexpected illnesses. They offer some of the most affordable pet insurance options available. The addition of their “wellness plans” makes them a good option for pet owners on a low budget.

They even offer 10-15% discounts for owners with multiple pets or who don’t file claims within one year. Wagmo also provides financial protection for pets that may need routine medical care. The great thing about their wellness plans is that they start immediately, and you can go to any licensed veterinarian for covered medical services.

Important Features

Policy Terms

Before getting any insurance policy it’s important to clearly understand the terms. These terms will outline what your pet will receive related to coverage as well as what won’t be covered under the plan. All of Wagmo’s plans either come with a monthly premium, or on something more similar to a subscription service. The lowest which starts at $13 (for the wellness plan). All the plans also feature a deductible, which can range from $500 to $1,000.

Wagmo offers medical insurance reimbursement of up to 100%. The coverage of which will depend on the medical procedure used and the illness treated.

There are also limits on the insurance, including a lifetime limit of 100,000 and a limit of $10,000 for each “incident”. Wagmo’s deductible option is slightly more than many pet insurance brands offer and it can be a good way to help keep your insurance premiums low.

Wellness Plans

As mentioned previously, Wagmo offers wellness plans for pets, which are unbundled from insurance plans and offer affordable plans/ policies that cover different issues than the insurance policies listed above. Wellness plans are great for owners who need day-to-day coverage for common vaccines and annual checkups. There are three different plans which vary in coverage.

Value Plan

The Value Plan is not an extensive one, and it’s not intended for pets that may be suffering from illnesses that require constant medical care. This is more of a starter plant and it covers annual exams, vaccines, and annual blood work. It also includes yearly work for stool testing in the event your pet has digestive problems. It maxes out at $350 each year.

Classic Plan

Wagmo’s Classic Plan is a second-tier subscription that’s good for owners looking for basic health coverage costs. This plan is meant to offset common pet medical costs including vaccines, tick or heartworm treatments, as well as some grooming procedures. It maxes out at $650 each year

Deluxe Plan

The Deluxe Plan is considered Wagmo’s premium wellness plan. This plan is ideal for pet owners who regularly visit their pet’s dentist, veterinarian, or groomer and want to significantly reduce the out-of-pocket cost associated with these visits.

It includes everything in the previous plans but also covers an additional vaccine each year and includes $100 of additional coverage for grooming, tick, heartworm, and flea treatment. The Deluxe Plan also includes some dental care reimbursement of $100 per year. It maxes out at $1,100 a year

Customer Service

Wagmo has a customer service and claims department that you can contact for filing claims and handling any issues regarding them. In order to make an insurance claim, you’ll need to first visit a licensed veterinarian within 2 days of the illness or accident and then submit your claim to Wagmo within 90 days.

They also have an online portal available for customers, which makes it easy to submit the claim. Wagmo states that their aim is to provide fast reimbursement to customers, and many claims are reimbursed within 24 to 48 hours. However, they do allow themselves 15 days to reimburse them.

To make reimbursements convenient for customers, they allow reimbursement payment in the form of bank transfers or via PayPal or Venmo. You can contact Wagmo’s customer service directly by emailing them at [email protected], Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. They’re also available on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).

Pre-Existing Conditions

Wagmo defines pre-existing conditions as any injuries, illnesses, or congenital disorders that have been identified by a veterinarian or prominent in the pet before you signed up for their wellness plans or policies. And like many insurance plans, they won’t cover any pre-existing conditions.

So, say for example, that your dog was diagnosed with throat cancer and needs treatment. If you’ve received the diagnosis and sign up for Wagmo Pet Insurance afterward (even if it’s just a day), the treatment for the illness will not be covered, and you’ll be forced to pay out of pocket for all of the expenses associated with it.

Waiting Periods

All of Wagmo’s insurance policies come with a 15-day waiting period, and a 30-day waiting period for cancer coverage. However, all of the wellness plans are available as soon as the company processes your application.

Is Wagmo Real Pet Insurance?

Yes, it is. Wagmo’s “wellness plans” can make their offerings a bit confusing, but yet they do provide insurance plans. The ideal plan for you will depend on the level of coverage that you want and your monthly budget.

You can choose one of their insurance plans if you want full coverage of your pet, something that’s beneficial if your pet is prone to illness, injury, or other issues. However, if you want to save money, and just want to have general coverage for vaccines are a few treatments, one of the wellness plans may be better fitted for you.

What Is Wagmo’s Waiting Period After Signing Up?

No. Wagmo’s wellness plans do not have a waiting period. However, their insurance plans have a 15-day waiting period for everyday illnesses and accidents. Cancer treatments also have a 30-day waiting period.

Can I Keep Taking My Pet to The Same Veterinarian?

Yes, you can go to the same vet. As long as your veterinarian is licensed, there is no need to change doctors. Wagmo’s insurance policies and wellness plans allow you to visit any veterinarian in your state or other states that are covered under the plans, as long as they have a license.

All you need to do is take your pet to your veterinarian or groomer and then submit an itemized receipt to Wagmo (which can be done online). They will then review the claim and reimburse you accordingly.

What Are the Age Limits for Wagmo’s Pet Insurance Plans?

Wagmo coverage starts for pets that are eight weeks old and it won’t allow coverage for any pet over 15 years of age. This means that if you have a dog that is over 15 years old, you won’t be able to get coverage for it. However, if you had a policy in place before the pet turned 16, it will still be valid.

How Fast Does Wagmo Pay Claims?

Many pet owners claim to have been paid in as little as 24 to 48 hours. Wagmo handles their own Wellness claims in-house and the insurance claims are handled by an outside third-party provider, so they may take up to a week to send these claims out. For the insurance claims, they pay via debit card from a bank transfer or paper check.

What’s Wagmo’s Cancellation Policy?

Wellness plans can be canceled. However, there are stipulations. If you’re in the 24-hour grace period and haven’t made any claims, you can cancel the plan and receive a full refund. However, if you’re outside of the grace period or have made a claim, you will incur a cancellation fee.

Their insurance plans work a bit differently. You can cancel these plans anytime by simply notifying the company in writing about your intention to not renew or cancel. You’re also required to include the date that you want the cancellation to take effect

Coverage Limit

Wagmo’s insurance plans will cover up to $100,000 in insurance claims and up to $10,000 per incident over your pet’s lifetime. However, if you choose a wellness plan, the amount of coverage will depend on the plan, as each of them has its own annual limit.
