What Kind of Dog Is Rubble on Paw Patrol? Cartoon Dogs Presented

If you have young kids (and even if you don’t), you’ve probably heard of Paw Patrol. This hit TV show introduced a whole new generation of kids to dog loving, and each kid has their own favorite. But if you’ve got a Rubble fan in the house, you might wonder—what kind of dog is he?

According to the show’s creators, Rubble is an English Bulldog—a gentle, dependable breed of dog that’s always there by your side.

What Is Paw Patrol?

Paw Patrol is an incredibly popular kids TV series that was released starting in 2013. Eight years later, it’s a household staple for many families. Paw Patrol is all about a team of hardworking pups who help out their community, including Rubble! While other dogs are police dogs, firefighters, and even recyclers, Rubble has his own skill-set—construction! With a bright yellow bulldozer, Rubble is always ready to dig his friends out of trouble.

English Bulldog Personality

What about the real English Bulldog? These dogs are known for their tough appearance and great strength, just like Rubble. But they’re also big softies that grow attached and protective of the ones they love. If you have an English Bulldog in your family, you know that they are gentle and loyal, despite their fierce look. And even though they’re great pets, they can be stubborn at times. This makes them a great match for Rubble.

There’s another reason that Rubble is the perfect choice for a construction dog. English Bulldogs have a reputation for digging! Although not all of them share this trait, it’s common for outdoor English Bulldogs to bury bones and dig under fences if they aren’t kept busy. Luckily, most English Bulldogs don’t have a bulldozer to help them out.

English Bulldogs History

These Bulldogs have a long history behind them as well. Their name comes because they were originally used in bull baiting in England. Packs of dogs would be used to attack angry bulls, and the best of them eventually developed into the Olde English Bulldog.

When blood sports became illegal in England in 1835, the breed saw a big transformation from fighting dog to pet. These dogs became popular as companions in both England and America, with some differences between the two populations. English Bulldogs are smaller and more wrinkled than their American counterparts.

What About Rubble’s Buddies?

So now you know that Rubble is an English Bulldog, but what about his buddies? It turns out that there are dogs of all breeds on the Paw Patrol team! Chase, the police dog, is a German Shepherd puppy. The firefighting Marshall is a Dalmatian. Skye is a Cockapoo, while Rocky is a mixed breed. Zuma is a Chocolate Lab. These dogs made up the core Paw Patrol team, but new friends have been added to the team at one time or another, too, including a Husky, Golden Retrievers, a Bernese Mountain Dog, and a Dachshund.

Final Thoughts

Rubble is a fan favorite around kids, and it’s not hard to see why. With his fun personality and his awesome skills, he’ll catch anyone’s heart. The real English Bulldog might be a little scarier looking, but don’t get too shy—most of them are just as loyal and loving as Rubble.
