19 Incredible Scottish Fold Colors (With Descriptions)

Scottish Folds are a unique cat breed in that they have a genetic mutation that affects cartilage growth, hence their folded ears and established breed name. Incredibly, Scottish Folds can come in just about any color and pattern that you can find in the feline kingdom. Let’s take a look at the 19 most notable ones.

The 19 Scottish Fold Colors

1. Black

Black Scottish Folds are just that: black. They do not display any rust tints, and their undercoats are just as dark as their outercoats. These kitties tend to have eyes of gold (some people refer to them as copper) and black noses.

2. Chocolate

This coat color is called chocolate because it is rich and lustrous. Not quite black, the chocolate coat typically displays different shades of dark brown that may remind you of a quality cup of hot cocoa.

3. Cinnamon

This coat color is a light shade of brown that has an undertone of red. These kitties may display a light striped pattern where the brown and red colors come together. Their noses are typically a shade of brown and their eyes green or gold.

4. Cream

Think of the cream-colored walls in your home, and then imagine that color in a cat coat. That’s the cream Scottish Fold! Some are completely cream colored, while others display hints of tan, though no pattern is distinguishable.

5. Fawn

Imagine a cream-colored cat but with a “rustier” look overall. Some people consider this coat color to be a diluted brown or a light lavender. Other coats look like they are tinged with orange shades while under direct sunlight.

6. White

White as snow (that hasn’t been trampled on) is the color of this Scottish Fold coat. You will not find an inch of other color on their bodies, aside from their noses and paws, which tend to be light pink.

7. Blue

Blue coats are considered to be either “light” or “dark,” depending on the amount of coloring present. Lighter shades of blue tend to have white hairs throughout, while darker shades of blue can have black coloring that makes the overall coat color look much more pronounced.

8. Lilac

Some describe the lilac Scottish Fold as a cat with a coat of dusty grey hair. However, what makes the color different from a gray or blue coat is that it has a pinkish tint to it, creating a lilac color that’s simply irresistible.

9. Red

Red Scottish Folds almost always have a deep coat color, yet the shades can be anywhere from orange to true red. Either way, there are rarely any markings or patterns to make note of. Their eyes and paw pads are typically golden in color.

Tabby is not really a coat color, but it does feature fabulous tiger-like markings all over the cat’s body. Common tabby colors include:

  • Mackerel
  • Blue-silver
  • Chocolate
  • Cameo
  • Cinnamon
  • Cream
  • Lila
  • Fawn
  • Brown
  • Blue

11. Tortoiseshell

This stunning cat coat features two distinct coat colors that intertwine with one another. The standard variety of tortoiseshell color combination is red and black. Other combinations include:

  • Chocolate and red
  • Chocolate and white
  • Cinnamon and red
  • Cinnamon and white

12. Calico

This coat color features three colors, often referred to as “tri-colored.” Typically, a cat with this coat will have white, red, and black and/or grey patches and sometimes, tabby patterning on the black/grey areas.

13. Pointed

This type of Scottish Fold cat has a light white or cream-colored body and dark markings on the “points,” or tips, of their ears, face, legs, and tail. The pointed colors that are commonly seen in Scottish Folds include:

  • Blue
  • Lilac
  • Flame
  • Cream
  • Chocolate
  • Cinnamon
  • Fawn

14. Bi-Color

This coat color is simply a mix of white and black. Sometimes, the patches meld into the white and create brown and/or silver markings that might not be easily noticeable.

15. Smoke

Scottish Folds with coats that have white roots and colored tips appear to be a “smokey” color. This can happen with any coat color. The white underneath the darker color mutes the latter. Common smoke colors are as follows:

  • Chocolate
  • Cinnamon
  • Fawn
  • Tortoiseshell
  • Blue

16. Diluted

Various coat colors and combinations are considered to be “diluted” because they are much lighter than the average coat of said color. These colors and combinations include lilac and cream, fawn and cream, and blue and cream.

17. Shaded

The most common color of shaded Scottish Fold is the shaded silver. This coat has a white undercoat with black tips on the belly, face, and tail. However, this is not the only color of shaded Scottish Fold. You can also find blue, lilac, fawn, cinnamon, and chocolate varieties.

18. Chinchilla Silver

Cats with this coat have a pure white undercoat and black tips, just like shaded silver cats. However, the very tips of the ears, the chest, and the belly are usually white. These cats also have white-rimmed eyes and lips.

19. Chinchilla Golden

Instead of a white undercoat, like what the chinchilla silver Scottish Fold has, this coat color has a cream undercoat that makes their overall look be much darker (and a little more mysterious). Kitties with this type of coat usually have green or bluish eyes and reddish-brown noses.
