The 10 Best Cat Beds at PetSmart
1. Kitty City Cool Gray & White Folding Cube – Best Overall
Size: | 16.4”L x 16.4”W x 19.25”H |
Materials: | Paper, PE board, polyester |
Features: | Collapsible |
The best overall cat bed at PetSmart is this cool folding cube! Technically, it can be used as two cat beds in one as a cat could nap inside or on top; either way is sure to delight your pet. The brand claims even the pickiest of kitties enjoy this cat bed, so if that sounds like your cat, give it a try! Setting this cube up only takes a matter of seconds, and because it’s collapsible, you can easily fold it down for storage whenever you’d like. It’s still strong enough to be stackable, though, so if you have multiple cats, throw another cube on top for double the napping space. Best of all, the pillow and cushion on this are machine washable and perfectly safe to go in the dryer.
Pet owners’ biggest complaints about this one were that there was occasionally an off-putting chemical smell to it when it first arrived, plus it didn’t hold up to spot cleaning.
2. Armarkat Luxe Velvet Cuddler – Best Value
Size: | 15”L x 15”W x 5”H |
Materials: | Plush, velvet, polyfill |
Features: | Waterproof base |
As the best cat bed at PetSmart for the money, Armarkat Luxe Velvet Cuddler Pet Bed provides your favorite feline with the softest of places to cozy up and nap. With incredibly soft plush on the inside and soft velvet on the outside, your cat will be hard-pressed to want to leave this bed! Plus, this cuddler bed is stuffed with extra-thick polyfill, so your pet has all the cushioning it needs. And with a base designed to not skid, your kitty won’t have to worry about this bed sliding around when it’s getting in and out of it. And for you, this comfy bed is incredibly easy to maintain as the cover is machine washable and dryable.
A few people and pets found the base of the bed too thin for their liking, and there was at least one complaint about excessive fuzz from the bed getting on an animal and the surrounding area. Otherwise, though, people and cats seemed more than happy with this bed!
3. K&H Pet Products A-Frame Cat Bed – Premium Choice
Size: | 35”L x 20.5”W x 20”H |
Materials: | Plastic, fleece |
Features: | Heated |
This A-Frame Cat Bed is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a cat bed that’s more on the premium side. Though it seems to be made mostly for cats that sleep outdoors, it should work just as well for cats inside your home who have a penchant for getting cold and love cozying up to stay warm. The outside fabric is waterproof to keep kitties dry, while the heating pad on the inside is covered with soft fleece. There are two exits, so cats can’t get trapped if a predator approaches, and this cat bed can comfortably sleep up to four cats.
Pet parents did note that the two-door design turns the cat bed into more of a wind tunnel when gusts are strong, so keep that in mind. There were also a handful of complaints about the heating pad not being as warm as expected.
4. K&H Pet Products Thermo-Kitty Heated Cat Bed
Size: | 21.35”L x 14.45”W x 7.45”H |
Materials: | Polyester |
Features: | Heated |
This Thermo-Kitty Heated Cat Bed is for indoor use only, so if you have outdoor cats, you’ll want to go with a bed like the one before this. But for your indoor cats who love nothing more than cuddling up to some warmth on cold winter days, this bed is fabulous. The Thermo-Kitty Heated cat bed is deep enough for your cat to curl up into a ball to snuggle into the warmth, and the heating is something you can control with a thermostat. Best of all, the cat bed is low watt and energy-efficient, plus the cover is removable for easy cleaning!
The only complaint we found from cat parents was that the bed didn’t always hold its shape due to the difficulty of placing the foam back into the removable cover after the cover had been washed.
5. Armarkat Sage Green & Beige Faux Suede/Fur Cat Bed
Size: | 18”L x 14”W x 12”H |
Materials: | Faux fur, faux suede |
Features: | Waterproof base |
If your kitty is a fan of enclosed spaces, they might prefer a covered bed like this one by Armarkat. With this covered bed, your cat can get that sense of safety they need while snuggling into an incredibly soft, extra-thick faux fur. And the base of this bed is not only skid-proof, so floors don’t get marked up, but it’s also waterproof in case of accidents. The cover is machine washable as well, so all in all, this bed is a breeze to keep clean!
However, there were several reports from pet parents of the inside cushion falling apart on washing (and some said their cats preferred the bed without the cushion). There was also the rare complaint that the bed was too narrow for extra-large kitties.
6. Thermo-Kitty Bed™ Heated Cat Bed
Size: | 18”L x 18”W x 3”H |
Materials: | Polyester |
Features: | Heated, orthopedic |
Yes, it’s another heated cat bed, but our feline friends do enjoy being warm! This Thermo-Kitty Bed is pretty simple as far as the heated cat beds go, so if you think your pet might like one, but you don’t want to go with something fancy just in case they don’t, this could do the trick. It really is just a soft, flat, heated cat bed. However, it also offers orthopedic support for your kitty’s joints and has bolsters that are extra-stuffed for safety. The heater is 4 watts and energy-efficient, making this cat bed suitable for indoor use only. It’s also simple to clean as the cover is removable.
As far as the heating goes, several reports said the heating pad didn’t get very warm, and several said it got extremely hot. So, how warm it gets seems to be a bit of a toss-up. The bed also might be a bit too small for larger cats.
7. Whisker City® Gray Daldot Reversible Cuddler Cat Bed
Size: | 22”L x 18”W x 6.5”H |
Materials: | Polyester |
Features: | Reversible |
This Reversible Cuddler Cat Bed seems to be a bit of a larger one, so it might be a good bed if you have more than one cat that’s on the smaller side. It’s also designed to be extra-soft, making it the perfect spot for your kitty to take a rest. Plus, it’s reversible, with one side being a simple gray and the other a dotted gray, so you can pick the décor that matches your mood. Best of all, it can be tossed in the washing machine for easy clean-up!
The single complaint about this cat bed was that elderly cats might have a bit of trouble getting into it because of the height.
8. Whisker City® Bolster Cat Bed
Size: | 20”L x 17”W x 3”H |
Materials: | Polyester, polypropylene |
Features: | None |
This Bolster Cat Bed by Whisker City is the one you want if you’re looking for a bed with no frills or whistles. It’s simply a soft, cozy bed featuring a bolster to support your kitty’s neck while they sleep that promises to be an excellent napping spot! It comes in four colors—gray, navy, pink, and tan—so you should find one that matches your home’s interior design. The bed is also safe to toss into the washing machine, making cleaning it a breeze.
Best of all, this bolster cat bed seems to be cat and cat parent-approved! The only complaint was from a single person who thought the bed was too poofy. If your cat has a thing against poofiness, this probably isn’t the best option, but otherwise, cats seem to love it!
9. Instachew Ovoo Cat Bed
Size: | 16”L x 22”W x 7”H |
Materials: | Wood, polyester |
Features: | None |
If your pet prefers cat beds that don’t lay directly on the floor and you prefer something a bit fancier than most, you’ll want to take a look at the Instachew Ovoo cat bed. It has a mid-century-inspired modern design that will fit into any home’s decor and enough height to it that cats who enjoy being elevated should enjoy it. It’s also easy to set up with no special tools needed. The bed has curved edges to keep pets safe, while the cushion is extra soft.
The only issues with this are it might be more difficult for senior kitties to get up on, and some cats might find the cushion too thin.
10. Whisker City® Rainbow Zebra Print Unicorn Cat Sleepy Hut
Size: | 17”L x 16”W x 14”H |
Materials: | Polyester, polyurethane foam |
Features: | Covered |
This absolutely adorable cat bed (it’s a unicorn! And a zebra!) from Whisker City® will be a fun addition to any home with a cat that loves being inside cozy spaces! Besides being ridiculously cute and fun, it comes with a soft, cozy removable pillow and the promise of plenty of space for your kitty to sprawl. In fact, the amount of space it contains was one of the most often praised things about this bed.
There weren’t really any complaints about this bed other than one person commenting the pillow in it wasn’t the best. The only other possible downside we see is that the design might not be suitable for everyone’s style and aesthetic.
Buyer’s Guide: Buying the Best Cat Beds at PetSmart
As we said before, cats are picky creatures, so finding a bed they’ll actually use can be challenging. However, there are certain things to look at in a bed to make it more enticing to your pet.
Size
Cat beds come in all sizes, so you always want to check measurements to ensure your cat will actually fit in or on the bed you’ve picked out (or that it will fit more than one cat if you have multiple kitties). You also want to determine if the cat bed will fit the area where you want to place it. And if you’re considering a cat cave-type bed, you’ll want to take a look at the inside measurements as well as the outside, as some of these beds are not big enough for larger cats. Also, take a peek at reviews of any cat bed you’re considering, as some end up being not the size they’re advertised as!
Bed Type
There are different types of cat beds out there, from kitty caves to tents to flat beds to donuts and more. Figuring out which type your cat would like best will be extremely helpful in deciding which one to get. See where your cat likes to nap the most and try to find a bed that emulates the spot it loves.
Comfort
You don’t want to sleep in a bed that’s uncomfortable, and neither does your cat! That means finding a bed that won’t fold them into weird shapes or is made of rough materials. Thankfully, most cat beds will be made of cozy, soft materials, so that part shouldn’t be difficult. But consider whether a bed that offers bolsters for your pet to rest its head on will be better than a flat bed or if a cat cave lets them snuggle more than a donut shape.
Heated or Not
Lots of kitties enjoy being toasty warm at all times (hence, all the naps in the sunshine), so you might consider getting your cat a heated bed. Just be sure you check reviews to see how well the heating element actually works. Finding one with a thermostat you can control will also be beneficial. Remember to check whether a bed is indoor or outdoor (or both) before purchasing, though!
Features
The majority of cat beds won’t come with a ton of extra features, but a few will include such things as orthopedic support to keep joints feeling great, waterproofness (for the base or whole bed) in case of accidents, heating to keep kitties warm, or the ability to collapse for easy storage. Consider whether your cat needs or will enjoy any of those things. If not, a simple cat bed is probably best.
Ease of Cleaning
As fastidious as felines are, they can also be rather messy. They can leave tons of fur behind when they shed and might have accidents on their cat bed. Plus, it’s a good idea to wash bedding regularly regardless, as they can become rather stinky. Check and see how easy it is to clean a cat bed before you buy, so you know what you’re getting into!
Cost
The cost of cat beds is incredibly varied; you might pay a few dollars for one or hundreds for another. That makes finding one that fits your budget much simpler, though.
Reviews
Quick reviews like ours are great, but delving into reviews from other cat parents is even better. Who better to let you know just how good or bad a cat bed is than someone who’s already tried it with their cats? Plus, reviews tend to be a bit more honest than a company’s advertising.
Conclusion
If you want the best cat bed PetSmart has to offer, you’ll want to check out the Kitty City Cool Gray & White Folding Cube Cat Bed. Not only does it provide two sleeping spots, but you can get more than one and stack them for even more space. If you’re looking for a cat bed at PetSmart that’s the best value, we recommend the Armarkat Sky Blue & Ivory Luxe Velvet Cuddler Pet Bed not only for the price but because of its nonskid design. Finally, if you want a cat bed that’s a bit more premium, consider the K&H Pet Products Outdoor A-Frame Cat Bed, as it’s heated and can be used indoors or outdoors. Happy shopping!
